ScrewAttack Counts Down The Top 10 Movie Games

Given how awful movie tie-in games usually are, I imagine the kiddos at ScrewAttack started putting this list together 23 years ago, and only just now ten games that they’d feel alright about saying “Yes, these are good.”

The Top Five Most Exciting Things Announced At E3: Sony

We’re wrapping up our countdown of the Top 5 Most Exciting Things Announced from each of the big 3 console makers at E3 this week. Our first two parts covered Nintendo and Microsoft. Now, while you’re coming down from your dayglow neon Vegas high, enjoy the most accurate and precise countdown in the galaxy, below.

5) Motion Controls – While everyone was still getting up from their feinting couches after Microsofts Project NATAL bombshell, Sony showed off their quite-impressive motion controls. Interacting with the PlayStation Eye camera, the two-piece control allows the user to move through 3D space, while their movements are tracked to, by Sony’s claims, “sub-millimeter” precision. The on-stage demo was a shooter that impressed those in attendance, though the controller itself (a wand device with a color-changing ball on top) looks like …

The Top Five Most Exciting Things Announced At E3: Microsoft

We’re continuing a countdown of the most awesome things announced at E3 from the 3 major console companies. Our first one, covering Nintendo, can be found here. Now, the ONLY list of Microsoft’s best announcements from E3. Again, this is 100% objective, and if you disagree, hey alien, I didn’t know there were otherworldly lifeforms reading the Internet! Though I should have guessed.

5) Halo 3: ODST – One of the most awesome things in Grant Morrison’s brilliant run on Doom Patrol, was an issue where a random foot soldier was casually murdered in a fight. At his dying breath, Morrison took us back through the guy’s life to show that, even though he was just some underling, cannon fodder in a larger war, he was still a person too. Every story has its …

The Top Five Most Exciting Things Announced At E3: Nintendo

E3 has come and gone, and is but a candy-coated memory in our overstimulated little headnuts. After the YAWNfest that was last year’s show, E3 was definitely back in full force in the nickel-plus-four-pennies. For an industry built on bells, whistles, and explosions, the circus atmosphere sure seems to bring out the A-game in every developer and hardware designer. In the first of three posts covering the big 3 consoles, we’ll look at 5 things announced for each console. First up: Nintendo. Please note that this list is in no way subjective and is 100% the most definitive guide to what is awesome. If you disagree, you must not exist.

5) Wii Fit Plus – For all the advantages that WiiFit has, one of the most crippling, frustrating disadvantages is that you were never able …

IGN Does SEGA Retrospective, Omits Sonic’s Heroin Addiction

During those halcyon days of “bit wars,” I always considered the SEGA Genesis to be the sloppy, grunge console to the Super Nintendo’s polished, well-produced sheen. Everything on the Genesis was a little bit grittier and more loose, like the first time you hear Nirvana after listening to Duran Duran.

If we’re making parallels to music, then this article on the history of SEGA is most certainly the “Behind The Music” for the company that could. An upstart in the video game hardware business, they flew high, becoming more popular than Nintendo for a time, only to have an Icarus-like fall as their waxen Saturn wings melted in the heat of the spotlight.

It’s a lenghty piece, going all the way back to World War II to show the company’s …

Marvel MMO Rises Like A Jean Grey From The Ashes

As a nascent Marvel zombie youth, one of my big dreams was to get some video game chocolate in my comic book peanut butter.  I suffered through myriad awful comic based video games (Silver Surfer, anyone?), middling games (X-Men for Sega Genesis), and really solid ones (last year’s Spider-Man: Web of Shadows).  None, though, was able to come close to creating a cohesive union of the two – yes, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance came close, but still felt limited in comparison to the idea that was the Marvel MMO that was announced years ago cancelled unceremoniously in 2007.

However, today brings news that startup Gazillion Entertainment has signed a 10-year deal to publish several Marvel MMOs.  According to VentureBeat, the studio will roll out the first of its efforts this fall, an online game in support …

Listology: 4 Old School Games I Will Never Play (again) On Hallucinogens

4. Mario Kart 64 – Nintendo 64

It’s not the fast paced and frantic action that gets ya, but just one level in particular: Rainbow Road. Yeah, you could just avoid it, but there’s something about that technicolor track that draws you in, moth to flame.

3. ToeJam & Earl – Sega Genesis

If you haven’t played this game, I feel bad for you. With one of the best Co-op concepts at the time, I remember dying with laughter while rocking this game with my brother back in the day. Throwing some LSD into the mix leads to asphyxiation via rofl.

I was getting pissed that I couldn’t find a clip without some dip talking about …

Listology: Top 7 Sexually Ambiguous Characters

For this week’s Listology, I bring you a matter that has plagued civilizations since the beginning of history: sexual ambiguity. Sure some of us may choose to go against the grain that nature has laid out; that’s just fine. But when you purposefully tread upon the line, blurring black & white into a murky grey, it becomes pretty damn confusing. Let’s look now upon the Top 7 Characters that do just that.
*Note: I purposefully omitted a ton of Japanese games due to the fact I didn’t want to write a Top 100 list! Wackity-schmackity doo!

7.  Bortega – World of Warcraft

If you’ve ever been in the Caverns of Time and needed some reagents/poisons, then you’ve probably met Bortega.  This NPC has the skin of a male Orc, yet the voice of a female.  He states

Listology: Top 9 Assassins To Do America’s Dirty Work (if video games were real . . .)

So we got a new President, that’s awesome. But what about the mess that’s been left by that other douche? There’s the economy, our global persona, multiple conflicts and what I think is most important, that ever elusive Osama bin Laden.

Now being a gaming/tech blogger, I really can’t go into depth on how to resolve these issues in a realistic world. So instead I give you my top 9 elite assassins from gaming culture who I think could get’er done:

9. Assassin’s Creed: Desmond via Altaïr Ibn La-Ahad
Pro: The man has a history (literally!) of dealing with dirty business within Arabic cultures.
Con: Not sure the “walking around solemnly in a white cloak with a dagger up your sleeve” would cut it in this day and age.
