MTV Looking For People Who Claim To Be Gaming Addicts, But Actually Seeking Fame

Does anyone watch MTV anymore? Their one flagship show, The Hills, tanked in ratings last season, and much like the younger generation of today, is a trainwreck of identities, flailing wildly in the cable stratosphere, attempting to find some type of relevancy. Good luck, Alexa Chung.

Anyhow, True Life, the network’s long-running documentary series, is now looking for people who are so consumed by gaming that it’s robbed them of a social life. Funny, lack of social life is what drove me to gaming in the first place. Oh, the double-edged sword! Per Joystiq [via Siliconera]:

“Have video games totally taken over your life? Is your game play increasingly getting out of control? Have your friends or family confronted you about your gaming habit? How about your marriage or personal relationships – are they being affected? Is it difficult to balance work and gaming time? Do you sometimes skip doing homework or household responsibilities to play? Have you played video games as a way of escaping your problems? Has your game playing habit become so encompassing that you may need to go to rehab to kick it? If you can identify with any of the above, MTV wants to hear from you.” — Actual MTV casting call, in verbatim.

Okay, so looking at these questions, they could almost literally apply to ANY TEENAGER PLAYING VIDEO GAMES. What’s weird to me is they keep talking about games as a habit, not as practice. No one ever confronts teenagers about their “basketball habit” or that damn “reading binge” they’re always on. And waitaminute, has our hypochondriac society gotten to a place where there is now an actual rehab for gamers? SIGH.

Well, follow the links if you’re interested in being put on display like a monkey in a cage. But if you’re going to be on True Life, don’t be like this guy.
