Internet, Internet…you continue to make our attention spans dwindle down to a place where they could fit on the head of a pin. Thankfully, independent developers understand this, and are creating microgames to keep up with our inability to pay attDoes anyone want to go see Star Trek in IMAX this weekend? What? Oh, sorry. I mean, attention.

Ludomancy, a lil’ studio that could – and does – created by Daniel Benmergui, creates beautiful games that don’t take much of your time, but will stay in your brain for days afterward. His newest creation, Today I Die, is a haunting game that starts with a woman who has either been tossed or jumped willingly to a watery grave. From there, you take the words of her suicide note/poem, move them around, to create different scenarios that…nevermind. It doesn’t take long to play, so you should discover it for yourself.

While you’re on their page, be sure to play my favorite, I Wish I Were The Moon. It’s a sweet, heartfelt microgame where you must take pictures of the scene and rearrange the action to create seven different endings. In the entry for the game, Benmergui seems less than impressed with his output, but I think it’s the cat’s balls.

It’s not just the gameplay that’s great in these, but the music as well. He seems to know just what to have play in these to create a perfect atmosphere for something that, ostensibly, should be a throwaway activity. The fact that he understands gaming-as-art-form makes me want to see what else is next from him.

Bookmark this guy, everybody. And the next time someone talks about getting girls in to games, put your finger to their lips, say “shhhhh…” and then lead them by the hand to some Ludomancy games. They won’t be disappointed.
