For this week’s Listology, I bring you a matter that has plagued civilizations since the beginning of history: sexual ambiguity. Sure some of us may choose to go against the grain that nature has laid out; that’s just fine. But when you purposefully tread upon the line, blurring black & white into a murky grey, it becomes pretty damn confusing. Let’s look now upon the Top 7 Characters that do just that.
*Note: I purposefully omitted a ton of Japanese games due to the fact I didn’t want to write a Top 100 list! Wackity-schmackity doo!

7.  Bortega – World of Warcraft

If you’ve ever been in the Caverns of Time and needed some reagents/poisons, then you’ve probably met Bortega.  This NPC has the skin of a male Orc, yet the voice of a female.  He states that “time travel can do peculiar things to ones voice” but I’m not buying it

6. Voldo – Soul Caliber

Everyone’s favorite S&M fighter, it is presumed that Voldo is a man, but I still have my doubts. I was able to find a pic of him as a young man, but my concerns are still yet to be abated.

5. Pac-Man/ Ms. Pac-Man

Okay, I’ll admit that this one is a bit of a stretch, but honestly, have you ever seen them together (besides in that wacky 80’s cartoon, but that doesn’t count). My thoughts are that they are one in the same. The wonders that one bow and a little lipstick can do to a gent . . . check out this commercial for further proof.

4. Tidus – Final Fantasy X

Though it’s quite definite that Tidus is a guy, he sure is a pretty fellar.

3. Lemmings

Besides making l’il squeeking noises, the Lemmings don’t say much to gave away their sex.  Nor do their Brit Rock haircuts or monk-like garb help with a solution, either.

2. Slippy – Star Fox

Now here’s a dilemma. Slippy is voiced by a female, so you’d think it’s a girl. But so is Bart Simpson (not to mention Nelson, Martin and others). The rest of the crew seem to punk on Slippy, which would make me think he’s a man more than a woman. Maybe s/he’s one of those hemaphroditic frogs, like the ones they mention in Jurassic Park. One thing is for sure: Slippy’s a lil bitch.

1. Birdo – Super Mario Bros 2, Numerous Mario Sports Games

Originally introduced to us in Super Mario Bros. 2, Birdo just may be the first transexual in a video game ever. He’s pink, has long eyelashes, wears a bow and is able to spit eggs out. So how do I know it’s a dude? Because I am one of the 9 people in the world that actually RTFM.
