BYU P.U.’s Pew Pew

Two new reports were released recently claiming that gaming is bad for you. The first, via TechRadar, states that gaming can affect relationships in RL. The second was published in the Journal of Youth and Adolescence [via GamePolitics] states that gaming can affect the youth of today in “so many ways.” These studies both suggest that gamers are more likely to be anti-social and prone to drug use. Both studies were held by Brigham Young University.
Hold a tic, BYU? 2 studies? This is the same shit! From Mormons, no less!
Don’t get me wrong, Mormons are swell people. I’m friends with some (most of which are gay, but that’s a whole ‘nother can o’ potatoes) but I am not going to except any scientific research coming from a University based within a religion that was borne from “magical tablets” which only one man could read. Here’s a vid from experts on The Church of Latter-Day Saints:

Though I am completely biased, I am still calling shenanigans. Bottom line, if you do anything for extended periods of time it is going to affect your interactions elsewhere. Moreover, what they fail to realize is that gaming doesn’t make people anti-social or prone to drug use, rather it is more likely that anti-social, drug-users tend to play more games.
I dunno, call me crazy, but it seems to make sense that if you think you suck in RL but can pwn face ingame that you just might want to spend more time in the latter realm.
